The Issues
ECCO is presently working to educate residents in Jefferson County regarding the pros and cons of installing a wind energy plant (wind farm). Wind turbines placed in and around residents has harmful side effects for humans, wildlife and destruction of the environment. Placement of these (407 to 500 ft tall) turbines in the townships of Lyme, Brownville, Clayton, Cape Vincent and Orleans and Henderson is critical for the protection of all residents, wildlife and the environment. Responsibility for the installation of these industrial plants is left in the hands of the community (per NYS Senator John McHugh). The decisions we make now will change our way of life for both humans and wildlife forever in northern Jefferson County along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. This is a tough responsibility for residents, landowners and local government officials. ECCO has accepted the challenges to help residents and our officials become informed and hopefully make the right decisions for placements of these industrial turbines. Wind farms are industrial electrical utility plants (districts) that will resident next to residents. These machines operate 24/7. All residents need to become involved.
All residents must become become aware of both the negative and positive impacts of wind farm developments. It is the duty of each resident to see that the negative concerns are addressed to Town Officials. Every wind farm must be “responsibly” set. Local governments must impose responsible wind laws that protect all residents from harmful health side effects and property value decline within their Townships.
